What does it mean to earn 2% cash back?

When a credit card offers 2% cash back, it means that for every dollar you spend using that credit card, you will receive 2 cents back as a rebate.

For example, if you spend $100 using a credit card that offers 2% cash back, you would receive $2 cash back as a rebate.

Similarly, some credit card offer 2X points per dollar spent. This is usually at least equivalent to 2 percent cash back, since points can be redeemed for cash, for a value of 1 cent per point.
